Renewing Ageing Estate Landscaping at Liberty Grove

Liberty Grove’s landscaping was installed in one go and is now reaching the end of its design life together: hedges going woody, screen trees outgrowing their positions, beds thinning. Maintenance here is managed renewal on a program, not just trimming.

Liberty Grove is a community-title estate near the Parramatta River, built as a single development with townhouses arranged around internal streets and shared open space.

Because every plant went in during the same season, the whole estate is now passing through the same stage of maturity at the same time — and a lot of it is reaching the limits of what was designed for the space.

That is the defining issue here. Hedges are going woody at the base, screen trees planted for a two-metre gap are now well past it, and original bed planting is thinning in unison.

Renewal Rather Than Replacement

A woody, bare-based hedge is often renovable over two or three seasons, which costs a fraction of removal and replanting and avoids leaving the estate without screening in the meantime.

Oversized screen trees can usually be reduced in stages too, provided the species tolerates it and the work is spread rather than done in one cut.

Doing this progressively across the estate, a section at a time, also spreads the cost across budget years instead of landing as a single large capital item.

All Commercial Residential Strata

Internal Streets and Staged Programs

Because the planting is continuous along internal streets, renewing it in sections keeps the estate presentable throughout rather than leaving obvious gaps.

Volume from renovation work arrives in bursts far beyond what kerbside collection across the City of Canada Bay area handles, and a gated site has nowhere to stage it, so everything leaves on the day.

Gap replanting is worth matching to what is already there, since mixed species in one hedge run never reads as a hedge again.

Ageing Hedges, Oversized Screening and Shared Lawn

Woody hedges are renovated over two to three seasons rather than removed, where the species allows it.

Oversized screen planting is reduced in stages across successive seasons.

Shared lawn and entry gardens run a fortnightly program with reporting throughout.

Removal and wholesale replanting is landscaping rather than maintenance.

Why Staged Renewal Suits a Community-Title Estate

Replacing an estate’s landscaping in one project is a large capital decision that is hard to get approved; renewing it progressively fits inside an annual maintenance budget.

Greenz Gardenscaping has operated since 2014 with qualified horticulturists, so what a given species will tolerate in a renovation is a known quantity rather than a gamble.

Community title and strata work is core to what we do, reporting is standard, full green waste removal is included and we are public liability insured.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

We engaged Greenz to do a major gardening clean up and general lawn service on the family home. We’re busy people and really just don’t have the time to maintain the yard, so the yard and gardens really were out of control.

The team were FANTASTIC. Just WOW.

The boys cleaned up the gardens and the yard (a huge undertaking), and the yard and gardens have not looked or felt better. From the initial consultation right through to the finishing touch ups, the attention to detail, personalised service and value for money are +++.

We will absolutely be using your services again.

Thank you, Greenz!

Before they came, my yard looked like it was sponsored by chaos. Adam and Ben and the rest of the team were instrumental in turning my garden from something that was so average to an amazing oasis. They were honest and open in all communication and gave professional and cohesive advice that catered to my original vision but it turned out so much more than I could have ever hoped for. If I could give more stars I would but alas only can do 5 so 5 it is! I’m pretty sure my plants are now living a better life than I am.

I have been using Greenz for over 10 years to maintain my gardens and have found them to be exemplary. They always show up when they say they will, and are affable, knowledgeable and committed to doing their job properly. Whichever team shows up they have always done an excellent job and satisfied any specific requests that I have had of them. The owner, Ben, comes to my home periodically to review the work that has been done and to discuss any additional work which I might want to undertake, which I appreciate greatly. I cannot recommend this business highly enough. Keep up the great work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions Before You Call

What the community association and managing agents ask most often.

Our hedges are bare at the bottom. Do they need replacing?

Often not. Many species can be renovated over two to three seasons, which costs far less than removal and replanting and keeps the screening in place meanwhile.

The screen trees have outgrown their positions. What are the options?

Staged reduction across successive seasons where the species tolerates it. Cutting them back hard in one go frequently kills planting that could have been kept.

Why is everything ageing at the same time?

Because it was all planted in the same season. An estate built in one go passes through each stage of maturity together, including this one.

Can renewal be spread across budget years?

Yes, and that is usually the point. Working through the estate in sections turns a capital project into an annual maintenance line.

Can you replant gaps in existing beds?

Yes, matched to what is already there. Mixed species in a single hedge run never reads as a hedge again.

Do you report after each visit?

Yes, which is what an association needs to track a staged program and approve the next phase.

Can you coordinate access through the gate?

Yes, arranged with the association or managing agent before the schedule starts.

What is landscaping rather than maintenance?

Removal and wholesale replanting. Maintenance renews what is there while keeping the estate presentable.
